While the subject and background of Lars and the Real Girl may well give cause for concern, the story is a refreshingly redemptive one.  Lars Lindstrom, a socially awkward man, surprises his neighbors when he shows up for dinner with his new friend Bianca, a sex doll.  Horrified, they have no choice but to play along until they have a chance to consult a local psychologist.  Soon, the entire community is forced to decide whether to help Lars, who is convinced that Bianca is real, or to shun him.

Part comedy, part drama, Lars and the Real Girl is as moving as it is unconventional.  Starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Mortimer, the film serves as a powerful reminder of the transforming nature of grace.
