One of the world’s leading biologists and two-time Pulitzer prize winner Dr. E.O. Wilson is proposing that humans set aside literally half of the earth for wildlife preservation to prevent the mass extinction of other species – what he calls an impending “biological holocaust.”

Is this hyperbole?  Apparently not.  From the sound of his comments, Wilson is dead serious: “It’s been in my mind for years that people haven’t been thinking big enough – even conservationists.”  And for those who perceive humans as just another animal, rather than a special creation, his proposal is logically consistent.  Sounds like Wilson and naturalist David Attenborough, who last year called humanity “a plague upon the earth,” might share some common ground.
